New graduate intake visits Premier Guarantee as training of future surveyors continues

Earlier in 2022 our Resource Hub featured our surveyor graduate training programme to mark National Careers Week.

Now as they mark the end of their first year of our two-year course, Premier Guarantee’s head office in Birkenhead was delighted to welcome the next graduate and trainee cohorts.

With a relevant construction degree already behind them, our six new students have begun classroom and distance-based learning and will soon go to sites to follow our surveyors and experience the role first-hand.

Ed Kay, Beatrice West, Grace Bradshaw, Lamin Jatta, Leah-Rose Biggs and Lewis Kos will join a growing number of part-qualified surveyors, former graduates and trainees to become fully chartered with the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) through MD Group’s Training Academy.

Previous students who have since gained roles and promotions at Premier Guarantee include North Central Regional Manager Laura Taylor, Major Projects Surveyor Luke Simpson and Head of Innovation Maciej Pulawski.

For Beatrice, Laura was one of her main inspirations to sign up to the course – as she is her aunty!

Beatrice said: “I did a degree in forensic psychology while working in a school as learning support, but after graduating I struggled with what to do next.

“My aunty, who is a regional manager here, took me out one day and I really enjoyed it, so I started a MSC in Building Surveying at Nottingham Trent University.

For Lewis, construction has already been a major part of his early life and career. “I have been surrounded by construction, including previous job roles and family building properties,” he said.

“The industry has always fascinated me and becoming a surveyor seems to be the best way to harness that interest and fascination with building. Hopefully I can uphold and even improve the light in which others see the sector of this work.”

The two-year programme with Premier Guarantee consists of intensive classroom and distance-based tutorials on construction, technical standards, building regulations and procedures.  This is complemented by going to sites to follow our surveyors and experience the role first-hand.

The group develop skills applicable to a range of buildings, from single houses to multi-storey apartment blocks, and learn how to competently and confidently undertake design assessments and record inspections.
